Super 14 2008: les nouvelles règles à la loupe

Après plusieurs semaines de délibération, ça y est, les nouvelles règles, les ELVs, "Experimental Law Variations", ont été enterrinées par le SANZAR, véritable cour suprême du rugby du sud. Parmi les majeurs changements:
- possibilité de lancer vers l'arrière lors d'une remise en jeu rapide sur une touche.
- lors d'une mêlée, obligation pour les arrières de se positionner au moins 5m derrière les talons de leur 3eme ligne.
- toutes fautes autre qu'hors jeu et fautes intentionnelles seront sanctionnées d'un coup franc et non d'une pénalité.
Le but de ces règles est bien entendu de dynamiser le jeu et de reconquérir un public qui délaisse les stades du sud depuis 2-3 saisons maintenant... Meme si la CM 2007 a confirmé que le "rugby qui gagne" n'est souvent pas le plus spectaculaire, le spectateur de NZ, d'Australie ou d'Afrique du sud n'en fait que fi: il veut du jeu, du mouvement, des essais, point de temps morts, etc....au moins pour sa compétition phare qu'est le Super 14. Se tournant déja vers le league et le footy, les aussies et neoz se passionnent maintenant pour le soccer, les equipes australiennes et celle de Phoenix de Wellington attirant régulièrement près de 20000 spectateurs pour voir leurs protégés se mesurer.... Autant dire que 2008, après la déception de la CM 2007, la désertion des stades pendant les championnats provinciaux/nationaux, sera une année charnière importante pour le rugby local...
Les stars se barrent en masse vers l'Europe, ou se retirent, ceux qui restent faisant la une des journaux pour de sombres raisons: après le "coup du sac à main" de Jerry Collins ou Ma'a Nonu (de memoire...), les frasques nocturnes de Matt Dunning, Wendell Sailor and co, les bagarres de bar...nos joueurs s'en prennent maintenant aux icones locaux: les animaux!!! Voici quelques jours, la Western Force se retrouve sur Rottnest Island, petite ile en face de Perth, WA, pour un camp d'entrainement...rien à dire, que du classique jusque là. Scott Fava, capitaine, wallaby, 1m95, 110kgs, bref, un 3eme ligne qui sent bon la maturité, s'empare d'un quokka (photo), et le projette, tel un lanceur de marteau!3-5m plus loin, le marsupial, icone de l'ile, fait la gueule, sous les rires des potes de Fava...bon, c'est vrai, c'est presqu'aussi drole que pathétique... Depuis, amende, excuses bidons dans la presse, bref, rien de tel pour meubler l'entre-saisons....
Pour terminer avec la Force, ils viennent de signer un ancien du...SM Pia XIII. Josh Tatupu, 1m84, 102kgs, 21 ans, devrait jouer au centre et palier la defection de Junior Pelesasa, blessé jusqu'a nouvel ordre....

Experimental Law Variations (ELVs) during the 2008 Super 14:
Posts and flags around the field:
1.If a player is in possession of the ball and touches a corner post, he will not be in touch unless he touches the touchline or the ground beyond the touchline.
2. If the ball is not being carried by a player and it touches the corner post, the ball will be deemed to be touch in goal.
Inside the 22-metre line:
When a defending player receives the ball outside the 22-metre line and passes, puts or takes the ball back inside the 22, the following can occur -
a. If the ball is then kicked directly into touch, the lineout is in line with where the ball was kicked.
b. If a tackle, ruck or maul is subsequently formed and the ball is then kicked directly into touch, the lineout is where the ball crossed the touch line.
Lineout:
On a quick throw in, the ball can be thrown straight or backwards towards the defenders goal line, but not forward towards the opposition goal line.
Breakdown (tackle/post tackle):
Players entering the breakdown area must do so through the gate.
Immediately the tackle occurs there are offside lines.
The halfback should not be touched unless he has his hands on the ball.
Scrum:
The offside line for players who are not in the scrum and who are not the team's halfback, is five metres behind the hindmost foot of the scrum.
Sanctions
For all offences other than offside, not entering through the gate, and Law 10-Foul Play, the sanction is a free kick.
